Whether you want to enjoy the great Louisiana outdoors or spend a hot summer day in the air conditioning, there are plenty of entertainment options in the Baton Rouge area. From painting and cooking, to kayaking, flying model airplanes, and smelling the flowers, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

MOVIES -- Catch the newest movies at one of the following theaters: AMC Theatres on O'Neal Lane or at The Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge, Movie Tavern on Corporate Boulevard in Baton Rouge or Juban Road in Denham Springs, Cinemark in Perkins Rowe in Baton Rouge, or Malco Theatre on Airline Highway in Gonzales. 

BOWLING -- Knock down some pins at one of the many local bowling alleys. Places to bowl in Baton Rouge include All Star Lanes on Airline Highway, Quarters on South Sherwood Forest, and Main Event at the Mall of Louisiana on Bluebonnet Boulevard. You can also try your bowling luck at Premier Lanes on North Airline Highway in Gonzales.

POOL TABLES -- Rack 'em! Play a couple of games of pool at one of the following local establishments: Main Event in Baton Rouge, Quarters in Baton Rouge, The Smiling Dog pub (formerly The Londoner) in Baton Rouge, City Slice Pints & Pizza in Baton Rouge, Rickochet Billiards in Prairieville, Crazy Dave's Daiquiris and Billiards in Gonzales, and All Star Lanes in Baton Rouge.

ARCADE & LASER TAG -- Play laser tag, win prizes in the arcade, and knock down bowling pins at Main Event and Quarters in Baton Rouge.

INDOOR TRAMPOLINE -- Urban Air Adventure Park next to Bass Pro in Denham Springs is an excellent place to bring the kids for some fun. They have a ropes course, sky ride coaster, indoor playground, virtual reality gaming, bumper cars, arcade, obstacle course, balance beam with block sword fighting, dodgeball, and much more. Airborne Extreme Trampoline Park on South Range Road in Denham Springs offers very similar entertainment options for the children.

SHOP -- The Antique Village in downtown Denham Springs has many unique shops with furniture, jewelry, decor, art, and antiques. Tanger Outlet in Gonzales provides plenty of shopping opportunity from household brands. In Baton Rouge, there's plenty of options at the Mall of Louisiana and the Siegen Lane Marketplace near I-10.

LIBRARIES -- The East Baton Rouge Parish, Livingston Parish, and Ascension Parish library systems are excellent resources in our area. They have summer reading programs and children and youth programs for socializing and having fun. There's also plenty of fun for the adults, too, as they host research and genealogy classes. And of course, check out a new book to read or DVD to watch.

PAINT & DRINK -- Sip wine while channeling your creative side at Painting With A Twist. Great for a date night or private party. They are located on Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge. Painting and Pinot on Perkins Road also offers private parties for adults and kids. 

COOKING CLASSES -- Learn how to whip up a new dish at a cooking class at Red Stick Spice Company on Jefferson Highway or Louisiana Culinary Institute on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge.

CASINOS -- Play the slots, try your hand at a game of poker, grab a bite to eat, or watch a concert at L'Auberge Casino & Hotel, Hollywood Casino, or the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino Hotel.  


LSU LAKES: WALK, JOG, BIKE, or KAYAK -- Take in the most scenic area of Baton Rouge at the LSU Lakes. Walk the lakes then picnic and watch the sunset. Our local BREC park system even provides kayaking opportunities for you to join in on.

KAYAK or CANOE -- Put your kayak in at the BREC System Blueways. There's a launch at the Highland Road Community Park.

AXE THROWING -- Sharpen your axe throwing skills on Government Street in Baton Rouge at Civil Axe Throwing or head to Gotham Archery on Greenwell Springs Road in Central.

MINI GOLF -- Get a round of mini golf in at Celebration Station off of Airline Highway in Baton Rouge. Another mini golf option is about a block away at All Star Lanes

TOP GOLF -- This is a great place for a date night, work party, or even for the kids to enjoy. Similar to a bowling alley, you rent a booth where you hit golf balls with tracking technology at targets in a range. Players can choose from an array of games to play and receive points on their accuracy. Top Golf also has a bar/restaurant with waiting staff that will serve food and drinks to your booth. There is a mini arcade to enjoy as well. Top Golf is located off of North Mall Drive off Siegen Lane in Baton Rouge.

Keep an eye out for GolfSuites which is a similar concept as Top Golf that looks to be opening on Siegen Lane later this year. It will open where the old Caddyshack Driving Range was located.

GOLF COURSES -- Swing the clubs at one of the many golf courses in our area. Regardless of where you live in the area, you are guaranteed to be close to getting in a round of 18.

BICYCLE PATHS -- There are plenty of places to ride bicycles in Baton Rouge as highlighted in our bicycle blog post. Get some exercise and wear the kids out while taking on one of the many bicycle paths in Baton Rouge, Central, St. Gabriel, and surrounding area. Routes range from beginning and leisure level to more advanced off-road trails. Click here to view local places to bike. 

BLUE BAYOU WATERPARK & DIXIE LANDIN' AMUSEMENT PARK -- Located on Highland Road near Interstate-10, kids can be entertained for hours on water slides and various amusement park rides at Blue Bayou and Dixie Landin'.

WATER PARKS -- Splash around at Liberty Lagoon Water Park on Lobdell Avenue in Baton Rouge or Aqua Pards on Eden Church Road in Denham Springs. 

BREC PARK SYSTEM -- Get active in Baton Rouge at one of the several BREC Parks in the area. From tennis courts, disc golf, soccer fields, baseball fields, basketball courts, volleyball, skateboarding, paved trails, fishing lakes, and summer kids' programs, there's plenty of opportunities to get the blood pumping.

DOG PARKS -- Enjoy an afternoon with your furry friend at one of the local dog parks. Locations include Burbank Soccer Complex, City-Brooks Community Park, Forest Community Park, and Greenwood Community Park in Baton Rouge, and Zachary Community Park. Find their addresses here.

FARMER'S MARKET & MidCity MAKERS MARKET -- The Red Stick Farmers Market sells meats, vegetables, milk, breads, pies, etc. on Thursdays at Pennington Biomedical Research Center and on Saturdays at 5th and Main Streets in Baton Rouge. Arts, crafts, and eats are available at the MidCity Makers Market at Electric Depot in Baton Rouge.

FLOWERS, PLANTS, & NATURE -- Get some fresh air at Hilltop Arboretum on Highland Road, Cohn Arboretum on Foster Road, or Independence Botanic Gardens on Independence Boulevard in Baton Rouge. Take in the sights and scenes at LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens and Windrush Gardens and the LSU Rural Life Museum. See and learn about local wildlife and nature at the 103-acre Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center.

MILLENNIAL PARK -- Louisiana's first shipping container park, Millennial Park is located in Mid-City Baton Rouge. Enjoy many excellent dining options, drive-in movies, community events, the Little Free Library, and more at this exciting new development.

THE OASIS: VOLLEYBALL, CORN HOLE, & GRILL -- Participate in beach volleyball and corn hole tournaments at The Oasis on Burbank Drive in Baton Rouge. Once you have worked up an appetite, grab eats and drinks at their bar and grill.  

BATON ROUGE ZOO -- View the nearly 800 animals at the Baton Rouge Zoo located about 15 minutes north of downtown Baton Rouge. The zoo hosts many awesome events and they have a fun train that tours the campus.

FLY MODEL AIRPLANES -- Fly your model airplane at the Farr Park Model Airfield located at 6402 River Road. If you don't have your own, hop on the Mississippi River Levee directly across the street and watch the planes take off and land. There's even a bald eagle nest across the street.

MISSISSIPPI RIVER LEVEE: WALK, BIKE, or JOG -- Take in the beautiful sunset on the Mississippi River levee or take advantage of the excellent exercise opportunity to walk, jog, or bike ride its miles and miles of paved trail. A few places to park with access to the levee include downtown Baton Rouge, LSU's campus, and L'Auberge Casino.
